Writing

Changes

How do you know when something is finished?

I’ve been proof reading Red is to remember but I find that I’m still making changes.

I’m reading the story aloud because I like to hear it. It’s useful because I can hear the rhythms and make alterations when something sounds wrong. But then the story changes – parts emerge of which I was not previously aware.

Will this happen forever? Is a novel, like a poem, merely abandoned? Or does it finish?

What is your experience?
